Designers, whether offering a high-summer pre-fall collection, or a wintery one, chose to communicate a very colourful and positive message. Purple hues were everywhere, especially with Pantone® announcing Ultra Violet as the colour for 2018. Take note: Pinks and Reds are still around. However, these beautiful terracotta, earthy and sepia colours stole the show for me. They are moody and perfectly different from the brights that will be on sale when these collections hit the shops.

Checked brushed cottons & wools
Exactly what it says on the tin. Checks were everywhere. Many designers opted for a total look, which I understand could be tricky to pull off. Tap into the trend by wearing a sexy skirt a la Monse’s.
Shinny happy people (holding hands optional)
We talked about the importance of high shine fabrications for SS18 (http://fashionanthropologist.com/ss18-runway-overviews-vol-2/). Well, it looks like these fabrics have a bit more life in them…

Tiger mon amour
This is The animal for the season. If you want to be cool invest in a cute tiger face. Leave the all-over tiger print for the club kids.
If you absolutely must, if your life depends on it, choose a clean graphic version. If no one is twisting your arm, avoid. You will thank me in a couple of years.

Who would have thought that co-ods would be a thing once again? I guess people like the easiness of wearing them together instead of looking for possible combinations. Or the opposite, they enjoy creating endless outfits by wearing them with other pieces they already have.
Mix those damn checks
For my sanity, allow me to mix this check trend up a bit. Clash your squares with tartan, but always make sure they match tonally!
Why don’t you do the same with stripes?
Wearing all over stripes is kosher this season. Clashing them with different stripes is even better.

Buttons are not only functional but also means of decoration. For a couple of seasons now, designers have experimented with button fastenings and button placements. Perfect trend for a closeted magpie.
The frill insert
Frills inserted in seams, for decorative reasons, is a major trend this season. It is a feminine detail that can update both contemporary and sporty looks.
I have been banging on about this for a while now. Colour-blocking made by dividing clothes right down the middle. It is refreshing is to see how designers have moved this trend on for this season. Check Pringle’s and Joseph’s spliced jumpers; two distinctive styles stitched together with a centre seam. Special mention goes to Monse’s jeans too. It seems that Monse cannot do anything wrong recently.

Handkerchief this season moved from the neck to the head. Think bandanas but also proper turbans. A cross between 1950s glamour and 1940s working class factory workers.
Logomania is properly upon us guys. If the idea of wearing an all-over logoed outfit freaks you out, maybe consider buying a “subtle” logoed belt…then again maybe you shouldn’t…

High-waist suits in checked fabrics is all the rage, but check out (pun intended) those sexy black suits by Cavalli and Max Mara. Yum!

Cardigan: a must-have for the season
I predicted its return a couple of seasons ago, and Pre-Fall2018 collections have confirmed it. They are absolutely everywhere, in every possible form and style. From the uber-feminine to the down-right androgynous.
How deep is your love…for V necks?
Go out and buy one! Masculine shapes with plunge v will do the trick.
